I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to New York Fashion Week and create content with my internship at Fashion Talks. This list includes a few things I wished I had known before my trip.

New York City from Central Park.

1. Wear the Right Shoes

While it may be tempting to bring out the stilettos and boots that match your outfit perfectly, it is important to know that you will be on your feet a lot throughout your day in New York City. It’s best to wear something more comfortable like a ballet flat or sneaker, and maybe pack those heels in your bag for later.

2. Don’t Be Afraid to Talk to People

Being in the city you will meet all kinds of people at fashion events. These could be people just like you or maybe even celebrities and influencers, but it's important to remember that everyone is there to enjoy the same thing as you. Get out of your shell and introduce yourself to people. I think you’d be surprised at how well the conversation goes.

3. Think Out of the Box with Your Outfits

Not only is New York the city to really express yourself, but it is also fashion week. Now is the time to really embrace your style and go all out with your outfits. They can even make a great conversation topic when meeting someone new.

4. Don’t Plan Everything

It may sound like a great idea to have your whole day scheduled  from beginning to end, but the truth is, it is better to have some flexibility in your schedule and be open to changing plans. From one event to the next, you may find a cute pop-up event you had no idea was happening. You also want to make sure you are giving yourself time to eat and rest.

Remember to give yourself a break. Options like PopUp Bagels or Blank Street are great for a quick pick me up.

5. Pack a Portable Charger

Once you leave in the morning there is no telling what time you'll be back and it's not good to be out in the city with a dead phone. Remember to pack a reliable portable charger in your bag so that you still have access to navigation and your camera, especially if you are creating content like I was.

No matter what, remember to have an amazing time in the city and to enjoy your trip (and the fashion too).
